Just The TRS! is the premier Electronics Sextet of North Texas State University / The University of North Texas’ Electronics program.  Formed in Fall 2022 as a subgroup within CEMI’s E^2 Electronics Ensemble, Just The TRS! showed their range early on with a performance of Iannis Xenakis’ Mycenae Alpha and Arvo Pärt’s Spiegal im Spiegal. The group, at the time comprised of Noah Salem, Andrew Rubio, Pierre Jax, Micheal Casiano, and JD Fuller, then composed pieces for different subsets of other members to perform at a December concert. Most notable was the performance’s cold-open, Losing Control, a No-Input-Mixer Quartet piece written by Noah Salem. Since then, Just The TRS! has cold-opened every E2 concert. 

Most subgroups of the E2 ensemble don’t continue to meet after their final performance, but The TRS worked so well together, that they have continued to meet and regularly perform. In Spring 2023, the group added Nolen Liu to the group, and formally became no longer an ensemble subgroup but an independent Electronics Sextet. Nolen’s recruitment to the group also added the “!”; Just The TRS! has performed in the Merrill Ellis Intermedia Theatre, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, and most frequently in MU2009. The group has been under the formal direction of J. Andrew Smith (Fall ’22) and Patrick Reed (Spring ’23), being guided in electro-acoustic improvisation, live electronic performance, and electronic orchestration. 

In Summer 2023, Just The TRS! is conducting a Call For Scores, and will perform and record selected submissions in Fall 2023.
